I'm going to go over the different types of Resumes that can be done, and which ones best fit which kind of Job Application you may be looking into.

First, We will go over the different types of Resumes that can be created.

Chronological Resume

ree

This is the type of Resume that focus of your work history, and the timeline of where and how long you had worked with a company. This is the most common type of Resume. This type of Resume allows potential employers to see a steady growth in your career progression.

Now, if you are starting your career path, you might want to consider a different type of Resume.

However, it CAN help show potential employers that you are a steady worker if you have been with a different company for a long time. On a more personal note, at one of my previous jobs, one of the reasons I got hired was that I had been at a job before that just under 10 years. So they saw that I was a person that is steady and will reasonably stick with a company.

Functional Resume

ree

This type of Resume is more focus on your skills and accomplishments rather then your work history. This is best for those that are students still in school for their desired careers or those that are just starting their career paths.

This type of Resume may not have very much or if any previous employers on the Resume. Again, mostly focusing on the skills you can bring to the company.

Combination or Hybrid Resume

ree

This type of Resume is a balanced combination of the Chronological and Functional Resume. With this Resume you have a section that describes your set of skills that you can offer to your desired employer. And a different section of your work history that shows you have experience with the industry and show why they should hire you in their company.

This type of Resume can be a bit more lengthy and more time-consuming to create and retain the right information. It is best for those that already have experience and a steady career growth in their desired industry.

These are the most well known types of Resumes. Here are a few more more specific types of Resumes you can create.

Infographic Resume

ree

This type of Resume is more focus on the Visual and Design Aspects of the Resume rather than the more traditional text-based Resume. While yes, these types of Resumes are more visually pleasing and interesting, a lot of the ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) struggle to ready more intricate Infographic Resumes. And a lot of executives prefer the traditional text-based resumes.

These Resumes are best for those in the more Creative Industry to show off your skills with graphic designs. These Resumes are also good for in-person events that focus on networking.

Profile Resume

ree

This type of Resume is a more condense and concise version of a Resume. It's set up similar to Social Media Profiles. This type of Resume uses very few sentences to more or less "sell" your skills to the company you are applying for.

This is more used for applying for a promotion or senior position in the Company. As well as connect to a Hiring Manager on a more personal level.

Targeted Resume

ree

This type of Resume is one that you tailored to the specific Job or Career Position that you are applying to. Ideally, this would be best to make at almost every job you apply to. This list the Skills and previous work experience that are relevant or directly related to the Job you are applying for.

Also, I would like to say here that you can put down Volunteer work that may be relevant to the Job you want on your Resume to show added work experience. I had done some minor office work at an organization I was volunteering at that helped me land an Office Job.

Non-Traditional Resume

ree

This type of Resume does not come in the form of a typical text-based Resume. Similar to the Infographic Resume, this is a more visual and creative form of Resume that uses more graphics, images and other visuals.

This type of Resume is more used for those in the more visual or creative industries. This may also take the form of video or a profile on Social Media websites.

ree

Those are just the types of Resumes that you can make up to apply for your job. Remember a Resume and Cover Letter are just what will get you in the door to a company. The rest will be up to how well you do for interviews.
